The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life to whose competency belong the promotion and regulation of consecrated life (cfr. Constitution Pastor Bonus, art. 105 and 108) as well as the erection of Inter-Institute Centers of formation for candidates to priesthood and for students of Religious Sciences (cfr. Instruction on Inter-Institute Collaboration for Formation), has received from the Major Superiors Dr. Asztrik Várszegi, Bishop, Archabbot, Hungarian Benedictine Congregation, Dr. Jakab Várnai, Minister Provincial, Franciscan Province of St. John Capistran, Dr. Emil Kállay, Provincial, Hungarian Province of the Piarist Order, responsible for founding the 'Sapientia College', the letter dated 1 February 1999 along with the Statutes and the Program of Studies requesting the approval and formal erection of the Institute.

This Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, after attentively examining the texts presented:

  • 1) formally erects with the present Decree, at Budapest in Hungary, the Institute of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Sciences, which shall be named 'Sapientia College', as a public juridic person in accordance with canon 116 of the Code of Canon Law
  • 2) and approves the Statutes and the Program of Studies which are in conformity with the dispositions of this Congregation and by which the lnstitute shall govern itself for six years besides the norms of Universal Law, after which they will again be presented to this Dicastery for review.

All things to the contrary notwithstanding.
